THE ICEMAN COMETH - AGAIN - IN XTREME EAST BAY ACTION
February 6, 2003

TAMPA, FL - The Iceman cometh again at East Bay Raceway Park as Jimmy Mars
of Elk Mound, WI sailed from the 17th starting spot to win the Xtreme
DirtCar Series 40-lap main event Thursday night driving the Jimmy Mars
Racing Mastersbilt/Pro Power Monte Carlo.  Mars seems to like the second
series event at EBRP because he won the same event last year.

"I'm really getting to like this place because this is the second year in a
row I've won here," Mars said.  "I've got to give a lot of credit to
"Captain" Kirk Lowdy who came over from Brian Birkhofer's crew and helped us
with the set up tonight.  The car worked perfectly down on the bottom
groove."

Mars used that inside line to bust up through the pack and take the lead
from Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH on lap 32, and then pulled away for the
win.  Combined with a fourth-place finish the previous night, Mars takes
over the XDCS point lead by seven points over Earl Pearson Jr. of
Jacksonville, FL.

Steve Francis of Ashland, KY made a late race charge to finish second
driving the Valvoline/Mopar Parts Rocket/Stanton Intrepid.  After leading
for 20 laps, Moran finished third in the QPI Tools Dirt Ripper
Mastersbilt/Malcuit Monte Carlo.

Moran was the Ringers Gloves Fastest Qualifier among the 80 entrants with a
lap around the 1/3-mile clay oval in 14.766 seconds for and average speed of
81.268 miles per hour.

Randy Korte of Highland, IL took the fourth spot in the Mid-Continental
Fuels Rocket by Shaw/Race Tech Grand Prix.  Rick Aukland of Zanesville, OH
finished fifth in the Ostrom Painting and Sandblasting Rocket/Malcuit
Intrepid.  The 1997 XDCS Champion Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR came from
the 22nd starting spot to finish sixth in the J&J Steel Rayburn/Dickens
Monte Carlo.

Jeff Choquette, a 16-year-old youngster from West Palm Beach, FL continued
his impressive run with the XDCS by starting 27th with a Promoter's Option,
and finishing seventh in the Ron Arnwood Rocket/Progressive Grand Prix.
Choquette was the Advance Auto Parts Hard Charger of the Race and pocketed
an extra $150.

Choquette was the second fastest qualifier and finished second in his heat
race on Tuesday night, only to burn two pistons in the process and had to
park his ride for the evening.  Choquette drove his backup car on Thursday
night.

Pearson won the Action Performance 6-lap Dash to earn the pole position for
the main event, led the first lap, but faded to eighth spot at the finish
driving the Lucas Oil/Dunn-Benson Ford Rocket/Eatmon Taurus.  Terry English
of Benton, KY was another early race leader that faded late to take the
ninth spot in the C.J. Rayburn Race Cars Rayburn/Runyon Monte Carlo.

Matt Miller of Waterville, OH rounded out the top ten in the McCullough
Motorsports/LoTemp Racing Rocket/Russell Baker Grand Prix.  For the second
straight night, Miller was the Lucas Oil Rookie of the Race.

Pearson grabbed the lead on the opening lap followed by 1999 XDCS Champion
Dale McDowell of Rossville, GA in the J&J Steel Rocket by Shaw/Custom Grand
Prix, English, Moran, and Delmas Conley of Wheelersburg, OH in the Conley
Trucking Rocket/Draime Monte Carlo.  Rob Blair of Titusville, PA spun his
Bossard-Crawford Rocket/Draime Monte Carlo to bring out the first of five
caution flags.

With the double-file restart in front of the SPEED Channel cameras, English
took advantage of the outside groove, driving around McDowell and Pearson to
take the lead.  The second caution flag came out on lap four when Randle
Chupp of Mooresville, NC in the Biscotti's Restaurant/Park Ohio Rocket/Race
Tech Grand Prix tangled with Blair in turn two.

The restart saw Miller thread the needle through Moran, McDowell and Pearson
to take the second spot coming off the second turn.  After pulling off the
spectacular move, the Lucas Oil Rookie of the Year point leader set sail
after English.  By lap six, Miller was looking inside the leader.  Moran
stepped to the outside on lap nine to pass Pearson for the third spot.

Korte had charged up through the pack from his 15th starting spot into
fourth by lap 10 to join English, Miller, and Moran in a four-car battle for
the lead.  The quartet came off the fourth turn, four wide, and Moran shot
around the outside of Miller and English to grab the lead in turn one, but
the caution came out for the stalled car of Shane Tankersley of Morganton,
GA.

Tankersley was penalized one-lap for intentionally bringing out the caution
flag without having a flat tire, and English was put back on the point for
the restart with the scoring going back to the last completed lap.  English
led Moran, Miller, Korte and Pearson back to the green flag.

Moran drove around the outside of English in turn three to take the lead on
lap 13, while Korte passed Miller for the third spot on lap 14.  Korte then
got by the fading English for second on lap 16, as Mars entered the lead
pack picture on lap 19 when he took over the third spot.

Just at the halfway point, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN spun the C.J. Rayburn
Race Cars Rayburn/Rayburn Monte Carlo to bring out the fourth caution flag
of the race.  Moran brought the field down for the double-file restart
followed by Korte, Mars, Miller and Francis.

On lap 21, Mars and Francis dropped Korte back to fourth spot, and Mars
pulled up on the inside to challenge the high riding Moran for the lead.  A
caution flag slowed the field for the final time on lap 25 when Delmas
Conley hit the turn one wall.  The 15-lap sprint to the finish saw wholesale
position changes throughout the field with two and three-wide racing.

On lap 25, Moyer passed Korte for fourth, as Moran led, and Francis battled
side-by-side with Mars for second spot.  Lap 28 saw Francis fly around Mars
on the high side for second spot, and Korte shot back around Moyer for
fourth.  Mars reclaimed the second spot on lap 30 as his car really got on a
rail in the bottom grove.

Two laps later, Mars drove under Moran to take the lead, and then he pulled
away unchallenged to the checkered flag.  Francis and Moran raced for the
remaining eight laps swapping the second position back-and-forth, with
Francis taking the runner-up spot at the checkered flag.

English won the first of six 12-lap heat races, with Delmas Conley winning
the second, and Owens claiming the third.  Kelly Boen of Denver, CO won the
fourth heat in the Road Runner Fabrication Larry Shaw/Dickens Grand Prix.
McDowell won the fifth heat and the JE Pistons $100 bonus award.

Pearson won the sixth heat, and won the Action Performance Dash followed by
Conley, McDowell, English, Boen, and Owens.  Chupp won the first of three
15-lap Consolation Races with Steve Shaver of Parkersburg, WV taking the
second consy in the Bland Motorsports Rocket/Malcuit Monte Carlo.  Jackie
Boggs of Grayson, KY won the third consy in the McDonalds Swartz/T&H Monte
Carlo.

Thursday night's XDCS event from EBRP will air on SPEED Channel on February
27 at 9 p.m. ET.  The XDCS East Bay Winternationals finale will be on
Saturday night with a 100-lap $15,000-to-win main event, also in front of
the SPEED Channel cameras.  For ticket and race day information call EBRP at
(813) 677-7223 or visit their web site at www.eastbayracewaypark.com.

Chubzilla" Charges To Renegade Victory At East Bay!!!

Tampa (Gibsonton),FL 2-5-03

Chub Frank of Bear Lake,PA roared from his 15th starting position to the win Wednesday night on the second of three nights of Renegade DirtCar Racing Series action at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa,FL. The 2000, 2001 and 2002 Renegade champion shot past 20th starting Brian Birkhofer exiting turn four to grab the lead with three circuits to go and held off Birkhofer by less than a second to pocket the $7,000 victory at the "27th Annual Late Model Winternationals".

"Birky and Ray (Cook) were probably the smartest drivers out here tonight", stated the very happy winner. "Both of them went with hard tires while the rest of us went too soft. I knew I was in toruble right off the bat so when that accident happened on lap 4 I had to go to the pits for new tires. The double-file restarts helped us get to the front and then when Ray decided to go to the inside for that last restart we ended up on the outside which worked. I guess that was the way it was supposed to work out because my inside tires are bald!", chuckled Frank.

Frank's victory, his first ever at East Bay Raceway Park and his first of the 2003 racing season, places the driver of the Corry Lazer Technology/Corry Rubber Corp./Nystrom's Auto Sales/Rocket Chassis/Draime Racing Engines No. 1* Chub Frank Racing Chevrolet Monte Carlo into sixth on the Renegade DirtCar Racing Series career win list with 24 triumphs.

Don O'Neal rode home third ahead of 19th starting Cook while 25th starting Tim McCreadie wound up fifth in the final rundown. Completing the top ten finishers were Rick Eckert in sixth followed by Earl Pearson Jr., 16th starting Shannon Babb, Randle Chupp and 22nd starting Rod Conley.

Pearson Jr. and Chupp brought the 28 car starting field to the green flag but before the field could get through turn one the caution was out when Frank and Mike Balzano tangled. The second attempt at getting a lap in was thwarted for debris on the track. The third time was the charm with Chupp leading lap one trailed by Pearson Jr., O'Neal, Eckert and Terry English. Steve Francis grabbed fifth from English on lap 2 with Eckert taking third from O'Neal the next lap. Chupp and Pearson Jr. ran side by side for the lead but the yellow waved for a four car pile-up off turn two which involved Tim Dohm, Balzano, Delmas Conley and Donnie Moran. Dohm was the only driver to continue. At this point, it was obvious to many drivers they had the wrong tires on as a mass exodus headed pitside for new rubber.

One lap after going back to green Chupp and Pearson Jr. continued their war for the lead with Francis grabbing fourth. Pearson Jr. inched slightly ahead of Chupp on lap 12 but Chupp regained the lead on lap 13 only to lose it for good to Pearson Jr. on lap 14. O'Neal also passed Chupp at this point while Birkhofer flew from seventh to fourth. It was obvious Birkhofer was the fastest car on the track as the Iowa driver snared second on lap 19. At the halfway point Pearson Jr. enjoyed a slight advantage over Birkhofer with Dale McDowell now third ahead O'Neal and Cook with Eckert sixth then English, Francis, 24th starting Scott Bloomquist and Dan Schlieper.

Two laps later Birkhofer swept past Pearson Jr. to grab the lead but before another lap could be put into the books Eckert suffered a flat tire limping to a stop to bring out the caution. O'Neal suffered the same fate on lap 29. Lap 30 saw Schlieper, Bloomquist and John Mason tangle in turn two to bring out another slowdown. All three drivers headed pitside with Mason the only one to return to the action, though several laps down when he did return.

With 15 laps to go the top 10 running order saw Birkhofer with the lead over Cook, Frank, Pearson Jr. and Eckert with O'Neal back to sixth followed by Babb, McDowell, McCreadie and English. McDowell limped to a stop with 6 laps to go setting up the thrilling finish. One lap after going back to green, Frank used the middle groove to sneak past Birkhofer for the lead which he would never give up. O'Neal snared third from Cook with 4 laps to go and McCreadie blasted into the fifth slot with one lap to go.

The $34,000 purse event drew 87 drivers to the semi-banked 1/3rd mile track with O'Neal earning the CARRERA SHOCKS "Challenge the Clock" Time Trial award with his fast lap of 14.296 seconds. Winning the BRODIX,INC. heat race wins were Jackie Boggs, Pearson Jr., Francis, Billy Ogle Jr., McDowell and Eckert. The triple MASTERSBILT RACE CARS "B" Mains fell to Cook, Birkhofer and Schlieper while Pearson Jr. copped the ISKY RACING CAMS dash. In the non-sanctioned Monday postponed "Strawberry Dash" for non-qualified cars, Troy Kuyoth grabbed the win while Mike Collins triumphed in the regular "Strawberry Dash".

ELDORA SPEEDWAY

ROSSBURG, Ohio (Feb. 6) -- Eldora Speedway has released its 2003 schedule of events and from its contents, venerable promoter Earl Baltes shows no signs of slowing down, despite the celebration of his 82nd birthday this year.

A total of 25 events, covering 29 nights of activity populate the busy, and rich, slate.

Without a doubt, the highlight of the year will be centered around Baltes’ recently announced Mopar Million Sprint at Eldora. The September 19 and 20 contest will see $1,000,000 in prize money offered for non-winged Sprint Cars.

For the winged Sprint aficionados, Eldora will once again play host to two major events. The 20th annual edition of the Kings Royal, offering $50,000 to the victor will be contested over the weekend of July 18 and 19, with complete programs each night, while the 11th running of the Historical Big One, paying $100,000 to win, will take place August 9.

Baltes is serving up a healthy menu of Late Model racing in 2003, with their most enthusiastic event of the year, the World 100, scheduled for the weekend of September 5 and 6. This year’s 100-lap chase will see the victor taking home $36,000.

In June, over the weekend of the 6th and 7th, the Dirt Late Model Dream will see a driver picking up $100,000 for his efforts.

New to the Late Model bill of fare in 2003 at Eldora is a stop along the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) highly coveted Summer Nationals trail. That series will pay a visit to Eldora Saturday night, July 12.

September will see a return of the New York based Big Blocks, with the 2nd annual running of the Eldora Fall DIRT (Drivers Independent Race Teams) Big Block 100, an event that was extensively received in its initial appearance last fall.

Sanctioning bodies conducting race meets at Eldora this year will include the United States Auto Club (USAC), World of Outlaws (WoO), All Star Circuit of Champions, UMP, Sunoco American Late Model Series (ALMS), DIRT and the National Racing Alliance (NRA).

The busy Eldora campaign will kick off Saturday night, March 29 with the Sunoco sponsored ALMS event for Late Models, along with UMP Modifieds and Eldora Stocks.
