Longacre Racing is new state championship sponsor for I.M.C.A.
WOODINVILLE, Wash. (Feb. 21) - Longacre Racing Products is
the new title sponsor for I.M.C.A.'s state champi-onship awards program.
The Woodinville, Wash., manufacturer will award $100 in cash
to state champions in the Modified, Late Model, Sprint Car and Stock Car
divisions, and $50 to each Hobby Stock state champ.
State champions in all five divisions will also receive
jackets and plaques.
While many of its dealers have given contingencies at the
local track level, the contingency program is Longacre's first directly with
I.M.C.A. The company offers more than 1,200 different products, running the
gamut from computer-ized scales and accessories to tire gauges and alignment
equipment.
"We like the national flavor of this program, with
involvement in each state. We wanted to do this in a big way and that's what
we've done," Longacre President Jeff Butcher said. "I.M.C.A. is an
organization with members that many of our dealers service. As a manufacturer,
we're trying to target the people who use our products and get the most benefit
from them."
Founded in 1978 by Jack Jaynes, Longacre has office and
manufacturing facilities in Woodinville and a warehouse in North Carolina. A
50,000 square-foot facility is under construction in Monroe, Wash., and will
provide a new base of operations beginning next year.
"We're very excited about this. I.M.C.A. has been around
for a long time and having direct involvement is an excel-lent opportunity for
us. Our dealers will appreciate this involvement," said Butcher.
"We focus on making quality products and are proud to offer our line at
affordable prices."
All points earned at feature races at tracks in each state
are used in compiling state standings. As was the case last sea-son, a minimum
of 12 sanctioned events must be held in the division for a state champion to be
crowned.
Drivers in all five divisions must also display two Longacre
Racing products decals, included in the packet they re-ceive from I.M.C.A. after
submitting their license application, on their race car.
Questions regarding the Longacre Racing Products I.M.C.A.
State Championship awards program should be directed to Marketing Director Kevin
Yoder at the I.M.C.A. home office in Vinton, Iowa, (319) 472-2201.
"The State Championships have been one of our highest
profile programs since their inception three years ago and we are very pleased
to have Longacre Racing Products as the title sponsor. Longacre is already
a well respected name in the racing industry, and we encourage each of our
members to support them through the purchase of their products," Yoder
said. "It has been a pleasure working with Jeff Butcher and his
organization to this point, and I look forward to a relationship between our
organizations for years to come."

It its initial I.M.C.A. sponsorship season, Comp Cams awarded

"When a spot opened up on our National Decal program,
Comp Cams was very excited about the opportunity to step up their
involvement," I.M.C.A Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. "But in
addition to that, they also increased their contingency awards to all of our
divisions, proving that they are committed to helping the I.M.C.A. racer
regardless of division."
Bud Wollam back as Deery Series tech inspector
BURLINGTON, Iowa (Feb. 20) - Bud Wollam will be back on the
job this season, as tech inspector for the Deery Brothers Summer Series.
Wollam, from Burlington, served in that capacity for both the
Deery Series and the national I.M.C.A. Sunoco Late Model division during the
2001 race season.
"I'm excited to be back," he said. "The
drivers and the people at I.M.C.A. are all a nice bunch of people to work
with."
"There haven't been a lot of changes in the rules in the
last two years," he added. "Everybody gets a set of rules before the
season starts so they know going in what is legal, and I expect everybody to
follow those guidelines."
Along with I.M.C.A. Director of Competition Tom Herbert and
Vice President of Operations Brett Root, Wollam will host a March 8 seminar in
Des Moines for new track tech officials.
The first of 14 dates in the Deery Brothers Summer Series is
Saturday, March 29 at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City.
"THEE CAN OPENER" SCHEDULED APRIL 18TH AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY
Susquehanna, PA. Penn Can Speedway is pleased to announce Opening Day for
the 2003 season. "Thee Can Opener" has been scheduled for Friday April
18th.
This year all divisions will participate in the first race of the new season
highlighted by the mighty modifieds running a special thirty five lap
feature paying the winner $1500.
Defending modified track champion, Brian Weaver of Windsor, New
York, is
expected to lead a large field of big and small block modifieds to the line.
Last season Weaver captured the opening event for the modifieds before Mike
Colsten of Binghamton, New York went on his hot streak winning the next
three modified feature events. Weaver and Colsten will be joined by George
Kostelansky, Mike Nagel, Chris Shupp, and the BPG Racing Team lead by Tom
McGurren, Rick Virkitis, Mike Decker, Al Rudalavage, and the newest member,
Jeff Strunk.
The modifieds will be joined by the late models, sportsman, super
stocks,
and pure stocks. Late model champion Al Coy will again be back to defend his
crown. Dave Zona, Randall Paxton, and Jamie Griffiths are also expected
along with many new faces in the division.
The sportsman field will be wide open this season. After a very
successful first year at the speedway anyone of many drivers can step to the
front of the field. Brian Decker, Gary Gallerie, Brett and Garth Tonkin, and
Bob Lane are just a few of the drivers expected. Many new drivers have also
indicated they will be at Penn Can in 2003.
For the first time in many years the super stock division will be
without
one of the top area drivers. Jamie Shea of South Gibson, Pennsylvania will
be moving into the modified division. This will put Brett Spoor, Chris
Piasecki, and Tracy Gregory on top of the list to win feature events at the
speedway this season. In the pure stock division Toby Sparks of Susquehanna,
Pennsylvania will lead a large group of pure stocks into battle. Drivers
expected to be strong in 2003 include Nate Evans, Shane Wolf, Craig Decker,
Mike Lartz, Everett Cass, and Brett Wilcox.
Penn Can Speedway will be holding two practice runs Sunday April
6th and
13th before the opening event. Gates for the practice sessions will open at
1:00 PM. Gates for "Thee Opener" will open at 5:00 with the first heat
race
scheduled at 7:15PM. For more information on racing at Penn Can Speedway,
please call the speedway office at (570)585-9928 or check us out on the web
at www.penncan.com.
