Birky Heats Up Daytona win Win at Volusia
Muscatine, IA) Brian Birkhofer continued his hot streak
this past week at
Volusia County Speedway in Daytona, FL, as he picked up a win and had
several strong runs in his Seubert Calf Ranches / Double Eagle Sales &
Embroidery / Daufeldt Transport #15b MasterSbilt Pontiac Grand Prix. The
action began at Volusia County on Monday and continued all week long with
the finale on Saturday night. All of these races were UMP sanctioned and
paid $5,000 to the winner with the exception of Saturday night's event,
which paid $10,000 to win.
Brian and his race team were able to kick off the Volusia part of "2003
Speedweeks" with a bang, as he finished second the first two nights to
Indiana racer Don O'Neal. The third night was the charm, as Birky beat
O'Neal to capture leg three of Speedweeks and the $5,000 winner's share.
Strong runs would continue on Thursday and Friday as he finished fourth and
sixth respectively in those two nights of action. In the $10,000 to win
finale, Birky had his only bad luck of the week when his motor blew running
comfortably in the third position. He had to settle for a 14th place
finish
in the biggest race of the week. After "2003 Speedweeks" at both
East Bay
Raceway and Volusia County Speedway, Brian impressively posted 1 Win, 8 Top
Five's, 9 Top Ten's, and 3 Fast Times in the 12 events held during the past
two weeks.
"We had a great two weeks in Florida and ran well every night," stated
Birkhofer from his race shop on Tuesday. "Look at our top five
finishes
because when you are consistent like that, the wins are going to come. We
used one car at East Bay and another at Volusia and both MasterSbilt cars
performed great."
The "Way 2 Dirty Tour 2003" will continue at the Xtreme DirtCar Series
event
at Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, LA on March 15. The race pays
$15,000 to win and will be taped by the SPEED Channel for airing later in
the spring. The Thursday night East Bay event that was taped by SPEED will
air on February 27 at 9:00 p.m. EST and the Saturday night East Bay event
will air on March 6 at 11:00 p.m. EST. Birky finished 12th and 4th
respectively in those two televised events.
